Academic and Career Planning

Important Terms and Information:

Artifact: An artifact is a sample of evidence that demonstrates who you are and what you have accomplished.

Artifacts can be:

  • an essay or assignment, or perhaps a certificate

  • an audio recording of a vocal or music performance

  • a visual, such as a drawing, or photo of a project that you have created

  • an electronic form, such as a website, computer created design, or video

**Choose artifacts that reflect you, your growth, your personality, and/or your well-roundedness**

Reflection: A reflection is a solid 1-2 paragraph self-evaluation.

Things to consider when writing a reflection:

  • Why did you choose this artifact?

  • What does this artifact say about you? How does it make you feel about yourself?

  • What growth do you see in this artifact from other related artifacts?

  • How does this artifact connect to your future goals?

BEFORE BEGINNING:

  • Save 3 careers

STUDENTS WILL:

  • I can learn the importance of a career backup plan

  • I can investigate strategies for dealing with obstacles that may come up in my career path

  • I can explore potential backup careers for myself

Job Interviews

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • I can explore ways to prepare for a job interview

  • I can describe my own abilities and qualifications in the context of an interview

  • I can investigate job interview questions in the context of a career that interests me

  • I can explore appropriate post-interview behaviors and actions

Career Path Choices

BEFORE BEGINING:

  • Add 5 interests, save 3 careers

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • I can understand that career development is a process of constant change

  • I can understand that flexibility and adaptability can help me continually explore my career options

  • I can understand how re-evaluating my interests, skills, etc. can identify the need or desire for a career change
