Kindergarten - Gillette, Shawna

Headshot of Ms. Gillette

Welcome to Mrs. Gillette's Kindergarten Class!

My name is Shawna Gillette and I am so excited to be your child's teacher. I began teaching at the Stratford Elementary School in 2005. I graduated from UW-Stout in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I completed my Master's Degree in Education from Viterbo University in 2009. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, bike riding, and spending time outdoors with my family in our pool and our cabin.

Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each day. Our days are filled with wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.

I use a management system called the Daily Five for our reading, writing, and math skills. Families can help at home by reading to and with their children daily, and by encouraging them to write and draw. We incorporate enrichment groups five days a week, for 20 minutes a day. We use Envision Math. Our math program has many hands-on activities, math stations, technology, and Daily Four math stations, We introduce science and social studies in kindergarten too.

Other activities that fill our days are morning meetings, songs and singing, art activities, spending time with friends, daily sharing, map activities, easel time, book buddies, sign language, Promethean board interaction, and informational books and stories.

My Mission is to create a quality classroom where the students feel safe both physically and emotionally. I will ensure that each student's unique learning needs are met in fun and interesting ways. Students will learn how to take responsibility for their own actions.
